Frank Morris Tier I High School Football Coach of the Year by Football Alberta
Posted on April 18th, 2017
Congratulations to Gino Castellan, head coach of the Notre Dame Cougars football team for being named the Frank Morris Tier I High School Football Coach of the Year by Football Alberta.
Gino led the Notre Dame Cougars to their first city title since 2009, with a 39-15 victory over Hunting Hills this November. The Cougars then became the first Central Alberta team in 21 years to advance to the Tier I Football Alberta North finals, defeating the 4th ranked Harry Ainley Titans 27-8 before falling to the Bev Facey Falcons.
This year's team also has 6 students who will be representing Notre Dame at the 2017 Senior Bowl this year. The 6 athletes are the most from any one school in the province.
This award is presented in honour of the former Director of Player Development of the Edmonton Eskimos in recognition of his contribution to amateur football in Alberta and Canada. The recipient of this award is acknowledged for making a significant contribution to the local growth and development of football in a Tier I high school program.
This is the third time Gino has been recognized for his coaching efforts. He has previously won the Tier II Coach of the Year Award and the Football Alberta overall Coach of the Year Award.
Coach Castellan will be formally presented with the award at the Senior Bowl during the May Long Weekend.
